Houston neighborhood guide

The Heights

Historic architecture, tree-lined streets, local businesses, and newer construction come together in one of Houston’s most recognizable close-in communities.

Local perspective

Historic character, distinctly Houston.

Platted in 1891, Houston Heights began as one of Houston’s earliest planned communities. Its enduring identity can be seen along Heights Boulevard and in its original Victorian residences, Craftsman bungalows, welcoming front porches, mature trees, and strong tradition of neighborhood involvement.

Today, historic homes sit alongside thoughtful renovations and newer construction. Restaurants, shops, parks, trails, and independent businesses add to the neighborhood’s everyday appeal, while its close-in location offers practical access to Downtown and other central Houston districts.

Property considerations can vary substantially from one block to another. Historic-district status, deed restrictions, lot dimensions, renovation history, drainage, construction quality, and nearby development should all be reviewed for a specific home.
